Service Description

COPD/Respiratory Assessment In the comfort of your home, our Registered Respiratory Therapists will provide a complete respiratory assessment. Each assessment will include, but is not limited to; pulse oximetry, medication review, breathing techniques, smoking cessation and a COPD action plan. Pulse Oximetry Our staff will assess the client’s blood oxygen levels and heart rate at rest and with exertion using a pulse oximeter. A detailed oximetry report will be shared with the client and their doctor outlining any areas of concern. Medication Review Using respiratory medications correctly is one of the most effective ways to control the symptoms of COPD. We will review, not only the reasons for your different respiratory medications, but the proper use of that medication. Breathing Techniques One of the biggest life limiting factors of COPD is the sensation of shortness of breath with exertion. This often takes a very large toll on the patient’s quality of life. Having to limit quality time with friends and family, change routines or even give up on hobbies that bring them joy and purpose. These changes and sacrifices can cause patients to become depressed. Our Respiratory Therapists teach breathing techniques that help our patients to recover from exertion faster giving them the confidence to get back to doing the things that they love. COPD Action Plan During the initial visit, our Respiratory Therapists will create a custom COPD Action Plan. This plan will serve as a guide for the patient to help them identify and manage COPD flare-ups. These plans help patients recognize when they need to take certain medication and when they need to seek medical attention. A COPD Action Plan is a critical component of effective COPD management. Smoking Cessation Our staff understands that smoking is a very powerful addiction that many see as a normal part of their everyday life. It is for this reason that we approach the concept of quitting through education and support. Smoking is the number one cause of COPD and COPD flare ups. Quitting smoking is an essential part of decreasing the symptoms of COPD and increasing quality of life.
